Background of Mr. Markku Paavilainen

Mr. Markku Paavilainen (born 1946)  graduated (Master of Science,Foresty) from Helsinki University 1971 in wood technology, forest products marketing, business administration and economics.

Retired February 2007 after having served  for 38 years Finnish wood products industries and the leading organisations in top operative positions.

Prior to joining organisations of the timber trade and wood industries Mr.Paavilainen experienced in the sawmilling business by holding leading positions for a decade in the sawmilling company and export timber angency of his family.  

 

 Mr. Markku Paavilainen has been active in joint Nordic and European organisations of the trade and industries: 

  • nBoard member:  WoodForGood Ltd (UK), Nordic Timber Council Ab, Organisation of European Sawmill Industries (OES) 
  • nChairman of Technical Committee, Confederation of European Woodworking Industries (CEI-Bois),  
  • nFinnish and Nordic representative in several technical committees of European Standards Organisation CEN harmonizing standards of wood products and systems
  • Chief Finnish operative in the drafting and confirmation process of standard contract forms and general terms for Nordic sawn wood goods to the trade to European Union
    •

For his services to the industry and trade Mr.Markku Paavilainen was awarded with 

  • the Knight's Cross of the Order of Finnish Lion
  • the Honorary Membership of the Association of Finnish Sawmillmen
